The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Singapore Lines will be having four main routes with the completion of the new Circle Line to augment the original three main routes presently catering to commuters' transport needs in the whole area of Singapore City. Based on the MRT Singapore Map, the four Lines will be the North-South Line (NSL), East-West Line (EWL), North-East Line (NEL), and the New Circle Line (NCL) which was initially due to go operational by the year 2006. The North-South Line (NSL) Starts from Marina Bay, a Bay area near the Central spot in the southern part of Singapore City which is a busy district being a source of leisure, entertainment and rich cultural experience making it a 24/7 destination for people who wish to spend their free-time blissfully rewarding. From Marina Bay the route stretches up to Jurong East, a town at the west part of the city.
The East-West Line (EWL) starts from Pasir Ris, a town at the coast area of Singapore City where holiday resorts and cottages abound. The route traverse to Changi Airport through Tanah Merah station towards Boon Lay, a small housing area in the western district of Singapore. The place was named after a prominent businessman, Chew Boon Lay, who owns a rubber plantation previously in the very place where the present Boon Lay area stands. The North-East Line (NEL) runs from Punggol, an underdeveloped neighborhood at the Northeastern part of Singapore. It is a fully underground line with 16 stations stretching towards Harbour Front, a district in the southern part of Singapore which is presently being developed into a new business and lifestyle center.
The New Circle Line, the fourth supposed main route, was initially envisioned to go operational in the year 2006. For some reasons, the planned due date did not materialize moving again the project completion target to 2009. Presently, expeditious work at the New Circle Line project is being undertaken to have it fully operational by the 4th quarter of 2011. When entirely in operation, the New Circle line will be a fully underground orbital route meeting the three other main lines at particular points in its circular route to cut travel time towards the city proper. It will allow commuters to bypass busy areas and intersections having its starting base at the Dhoby Ghaut station and culminating at the Harbour Front Station. Said routes are appropriately marked at the MRT Singapor Map. |
